In the fall of 2012, Brandon Carr established his not-for-profit organization, “Carr Cares Foundation.” The Carr Cares Foundation focuses on educational enrichment and physical fitness for youth. The foundation is currently in the process of creating tutoring and mentorship programs, in addition to implementing physical fitness curriculums in the states of Texas and Michigan.
When it was time to establish the Carr Cares Foundation, Brandon wanted the public to know that he was serious about creating a successful foundation. Therefore, on December 4, 2012, Brandon hosted an invitation only red carpet event in Addison, TX, where he officially launched the Carr Cares Foundation. Over 300 people were in attendance. The audience consisted of professional athletes, local and national media, metro Dallas city officials, politicians, local business owners, corporate executives, and young professionals. The aspect of this event that was most impressive was Brandon coming out of his own pocket to pay for the expenses associated with this event, and did not ask or take money from any donors or sponsors, even though monetary assistance was offered. Brandon Carr stated, “I wanted the public to see that I am investing my own money into a foundation that I always wanted to create. In return, everyone will know that I am seriously committed to making the Carr Cares Foundation successful.”
Shortly after the foundation’s launch event, the Carr Cares Foundation partnered with the Sports Authority to donate over $2,000 in toys to adolescent inpatients at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, TX. Further, right before Christmas, Brandon Carr went to the hospital and personally delivered all of the toys to each inpatient.
It should also be noted that the Carr Cares Foundation has recently partnered with the United Way of Dallas. The purpose of this partnership is to encourage those living in Metro Dallas to volunteer as tutors and mentors in order to provide assistance to children who are in need of additional educational support. Thru this partnership, The Carr Cares Foundation plans to register at least 3,000 volunteer tutors and mentors to assist children in schools affiliated with the United Way.
The Carr Cares Foundation has also partnered with the current Mayor of Dallas Mike Rawlings, to help with his initiative to stop domestic violence. On June 15, 2013, the Carr Cares Foundation and the City of Dallas will host a celebrity softball game where proceeds will go toward developing programs and assisting shelters in efforts to decrease acts of domestic violence.
Other activities that the Carr Care Foundation plans to facilitate are football camps in McKinney, TX at the Michael Johnson Performance Facility, a camp at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI, and another one in Flint, MI. The purpose of these camps is to teach teenagers the proper techniques on how to play football. In addition, all participants will partake in life skill seminars as well. The goal of having these camps is to ensure that all participants not only become better football players, but more importantly better individuals.
In sum, through his not-for-profit organization, Carr Cares Foundation, Brandon Carr is committed to providing support wherever it is needed. The Carr Cares Foundation has a desirable vision to promote quality education for youth in need of additional assistance. Carr believes children are a symbol of hope for the future, and thus serves as a source of motivation for Carr to become a role-model for children and an impactful philanthropic figure across the world.
